Alice in Chains guitarist and vocalist Jerry Cantrell recently made a saddening announcement that the fans would not like. He has canceled a couple of shows on his “Brighten” solo tour due to some positive cases of the deadly virus due to which the pandemic struck globally. The announcement comes after cases broke out in his “touring party.”
Jerry Cantrell made the announcement on social media
On Monday (April 11), Cantrell took to his social media to write: “Unfortunately, we have just learned of some positive virus cases in our touring party. As a result, we are cancelling our upcoming Florida shows in Orlando [April 12] and St. Petersburg [April 13]. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope to return to these cities as soon as possible. Refunds will be available at point of purchase. VIP holders will be notified directly with refund directions.”
Cantrell kicked off his “Brighten” solo tour on March 24 at the Palace Theater in St. Paul, Minnesota. Jerry’s band for the tour consists of Tyler Bates (guitar), Greg Puciato (backing vocals), Gil Sharone (drums), George Adrian (bass), Michael Rozon (pedal steel) and Jason Achilles (keyboards).
The set includes songs from Cantrell’s latest solo album, “Brighten”, along with favorite hits from Jerry’s catalog. The album was released in last October. “Brighten” is Jerry’s first project without Alice in Chains in 19 years.
Co-produced with film composer Tyler Bates and Paul Fig (longtime engineer), the LP got its beginnings just before the pandemic hit. They welcomed a dynamic cast of supporting players, including Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses on select bass tracks, Puciato contributing to backing vocals and drummers Sharone and Abe Laboriel, Jr. (Paul McCartney). Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens of The Stone Age) handled the mixing of “Brighten”.
